General Technical Information
Termination Methods:
- Screw Connection: Clamps rated according to EN 60999-1/VDE 0609.
- Crimp Connection: Solderless connection made by crimping, defined in IEC 60352-2/DIN IEC 60352 Part 2. Offers efficient termination and reproducible electrical/mechanical values.
Current Carrying Capacity: Represented by derating curves, indicating continuous current limits based on ambient temperature and number of loaded contacts. Values are based on DIN EN 60512 and material limitations.
Impulse Current Carrying Capacity: Connectors are relatively insensitive to impulse currents due to robust contact design. Guidelines are available in Diagram 4.
Voltage Grading: Based on clearances and creepage distances according to IEC 60664-1 and DIN VDE 0110-1, considering overvoltage categories (I-IV) and pollution degrees (1-4).
IP Protection: Housings provide protection against external influences. Degrees of protection are defined in IEC 60529/DIN EN 60529. Common ratings include IP65 for housings and IP20 for mated connectors.
Cable Sealing: Achieved via gland bushings, typically using Neoprene sealing rings for resistance to grease, oils, and gasoline. Variable diameter sealing rings are available.
Shielding: Prevents undesirable electromagnetic influences through metal shells or metallic layers on plastic shells, typically connected to cable screens and device housings.
Connector Glossary: Definitions for terms like Rated Voltage, Rated Current, Mating Cycles, Contact Resistance, Creepage Distance, Clearance, Overvoltage Category, and Pollution Degree are provided.
Wiring Costs: Comparison of wiring costs for different termination methods (manual screwing, manual soldering, machine crimping) is available.
Stripping Lengths: Tables provide specific stripping lengths for various contact types and wire gauges.
