Product Overview
These 29-position SAS receptacle and plug connectors enable the implementation of the high-speed Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard disk drive (HDD) interface, which is replacing the SCSI drive connection in enterprise storage applications for servers and storage systems. Conforming to SFF8482 and SFF8680 standards, these connectors are capable of meeting data transfer rates up to 12Gb/s. The SAS connector system is engineered for hot plugging and blind mating of HDDs, featuring staggered contact lengths for sequential engagement and guide posts for angled lead-in to compensate for misalignment, ensuring self-alignment during mating. Many connectors include stamped retention clips for robust PCB attachment, and wide-base housing options are available on vertical backplane receptacles for enhanced stability. The high-speed serial interface supports differential signaling, evolving from 3Gb/s to 12Gb/s. A SAS receptacle is compatible with both SAS and SATA drives, offering system manufacturers flexibility in deploying cost-effective SATA drives for bulk storage or high-performance SAS drives for mission-critical applications. FCI provides a comprehensive range of SAS plug and receptacle connectors in vertical and right-angle configurations for enterprise applications, including servers, server/storage blades, storage backplanes, HDD carriers, and HDDs.
